I’m wanting to get dental implants. I know it’s an advanced procedure so I should probably go to a dental implant specialist. But, I also so want them to look good so I want a cosmetic dentistry specialist. Which is the best one to get in this type of situation?
This is an important question, especially because it addresses two common misconceptions. There actually isn’t a recognized specialty by the American Dental Association (ADA) in either dental implants or cosmetic dentistry. Any general dentist can perform either. But, that doesn’t mean you should allow any dentist to do the procedure, so your question is valid.
First, you’ll want a dentist who has post-graduate training in the dental implant procedure. His success rate should be in the high 90 percentile. But at the same time, you want them to be attractive. That means you’ll want a dentist who’s also done a lot of post-graduate training in cosmetic procedures along with an artistic eye. That’s no short order.
Finding the Best Dentist
I’d start with finding your ideal cosmetic dentist first. Mostly because there’s a resource that makes that easy for you. The mynewsmile.com website evaluates and lists expert cosmetic dentists with an artistic eye. You can search by zip code and put how far you’re willing to travel. Believe me, it’s worth it to travel to another city to get the right cosmetic dentist.
After you’ve found some cosmetic dentists, ask them about their dental implant training. They won’t be offended by these type of questions. Medical practitioners are used to that. If they get offended or avoid the question, move on to a different dentist.
I’m certain you’ll be able to find the right dentist for you. There are quite a few great ones out there.
