I just spent over $20,000 dollars on a Lumineers smile. My dentist and I had an in-depth discussion about exactly the type of smile I wanted. This included lengthening the two front teeth as well as a very white smile. For some reaon, which I still can’t fathom, he decided to put a stain on them. He said to make them look more “like my natural teeth”. But if I wanted teeth like my natural ones, why would I spend all this money on a smile makeover? Unfortunately, he bonded them on before I could get a great look at them. I told them I didn’t like the color and he suggested I give it time. But, the more I looked at them the less I liked them. I called the office again and he said to come in and he’d fix them. He ended up sort of drilling off the first layer. While they are whiter, they have a dull dead look plus parts of it are uneven from the drilling. I’m in tears over this. What do I do?
Unfortunately, you have fallen prey to a cosmetic dentist who doesn’t really know what he’s doing. This happens a lot with the Lumineers brand in particular because they are heavily marketed to inexperienced cosmetic dentists as being easy to place. There is a lot more to doing a smile makeover than just bonding them on.
Then, when you didn’t like the color he mistakenly thought he could just take it off. In a way, you’re lucky he did that because by removing the glazing, he’s essentially ruined them. This gives you a better chance of getting a refund.
In order to secure one, you’ll need to get an expert cosmetic dentist on your side. Sometimes, when a dentist won’t listen to a patient, a phone call from a colleague will be the right type of pressure.
If you are able to secure at least a partial refund, this will help you get the porcelain veneers done again, this time by a cosmetic dentist who knows what they’re doing.
I’d look at the mynewsmile.com website to find your second opinion dentist. Anyone listed on their site was prescreened for their technical knowledge and training in cosmetic dentistry as well as for their artistry. Any one of them can give you a stunning smile. In fact, most of them have a beautiful smile guarantee.
