I’m trying to figure out how to get a skilled Lumineers dentist. Some of the images I look at done with Lumineers look good and others look bulky and fake. How do I find the dentist who’ll make them look good?
You are halfway on the right track. Noticing that some Lumineers look good and some don’t, you (correctly) devised that the dentist you choose has a lot to do with that. One thing you may not realize is that Lumineers is only one specific brand of porcelain veneers. This company in particular heavily markets to inexperienced dentists as being “easy to place”. They say this because they are ultra-thin and tell the dentist it won’t require any tooth preparation.
Unfortunately, as you also could tell from the pictures, this doesn’t always turn out well. The teeth which looked bulky likely needed that extra tooth preparation. Plus, there is a lot more to creating a beautiful smile makeover than preparing the old tooth. There are colors, textures, and a variety of opacities which go into the prescription for the lab. Then, of course, there is the whole artistry of smile design.
Believe it or not, there is one other issue to consider. The Lumineers brand is owned by the DenMat Lab. They insist dentists who place Lumineers use their lab. The best cosmetic dentists feel that particular lab is subpar and prefer to use their own lab and ceramist they work well with.
Instead of focusing on the brand. I’d focus on the quality and artistry of the dentist and let them decide what brand would best fit the smile you want.
Finding an Expert Cosmetic Dentist to do Your Smile Makeover
There isn’t a recognized specialty in cosmetic dentistry. Every cosmetic dentist is simply a general dentist who offers cosmetic services. Because of that, you’ll also find there isn’t a unified standard of training. Some dentists invest heavily in learning how to do beautiful cosmetic work. Others just muddle through.
In order to create a beautiful smile, it takes a high degree of technical training as well as an artistic eye. Think of it as the difference between two painters. They can both paint the same subject but the results are likely to be different. One way to give yourself a winning dentist is to look on the mynewsmile.com website. They have a “find a cosmetic dentist” link. Every dentist they list was screened for both their training and their artistry. They will give you a stunning smile.
